Ste Rogers and Al Kelly from Rothcoapproached me with an idea for a series of press ads but no money to do them. Rentokil were not a Rothco client but they really believed in the beautifully simple idea of calling Rentokil ‘at the first sniff of trouble’ being brought to life in the form of long copy ads — a format almost as dead as the rotting vermin in the stories!
Al wrote three emotive tales of the disgusting things that come to mind as one imagines what the source of the smell is. The copy takes the stinky form of the smells emanating from each sordid source. At the end of the copy the smelly stream of consciousness pauses for a second to consider the alternative: a dead rodent. And there you'll find one!
I created the illustrations and art directed the three ads which are proof that a good idea well executed can win any client over!
